We were greatly saddened to hear of the recent death of Judy Gardner after a long illness. Judy was a great supporter of the HTSG and an event horse owner for many years, having horses with Lucy Jackson, Tina Cook, Georgie Dalton, Claire Fielding and her granddaughter Sophie. Many of Judy's horses were selected for British teams and competed at Badminton and Burghley.

Cross Country Preview Evening Friday 9th May 5:30pm

We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting a xc preview evening on Friday 9th May. The evening will take place in the HTSG Marquee and start at 5:30pm and finish around 7pm.

We are going to be joined by one of our patrons Wiliam Fox-Pitt and course designer Eric Winter. We will also be chatting to two competitors. Storm Straker and Tom Rowland to discuss everything cross country, providing exclusive insight into what the riders will have to tackle on the Saturday.

Tom brings two horses to Badminton this year - Dreamliner and Quintilius. Tom and Dreamliner were 7th at Badminton last year after a brilliant double clear. It will be a first Badminton for Tom's second ride Quintilius so fingers crossed they can have a super week!

Storm is a first-timer at Badminton this year. She is riding Fever Pitch who she has produced herself from a quirky 4yr old. Winners at 4* level and a super clear round at Pau 5* last season, hopefully they can have a great first Badminton.

It promises to be a great and informative evening led by our chairman Spencer and will be a chance to ask the riders questions about their dressage and how they are feeling about riding around one of the biggest cross country tracks in the world!

This event will be free to members % open to non-members for £10 donation, which will include a drink from our bar. We do have a card machine but please bring cash just in case we have a WIFI issue.

Important Badminton News

Dear Members

The 2025 season has begun and Badminton is less than two months away. Please read the information below about this year’s marquee, how to apply for guest wristbands, make table reservations and book catering.

BADMINTON MARQUEE, CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW & COURSE WALKS

The HTSG marquee will be open for all four days of the MARS Badminton Horse Trials (8th-11th May). It will open at 9am on Thursday and Friday, 7.45am on Saturday and 10am on Sunday.

We will be organising a Cross-Country Preview at 6pm on Friday evening in the marquee, and course walks on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. We will send you further details shortly.

Please ensure that you have paid your 2025 HTSG subscription before applying for your complimentary car pass from the Badminton Box Office. Subscription renewals must be completed by 1st April.

Please note that ALL passes/tickets for Badminton must be purchased in advance. There will be no tickets sold on the gates.

GUESTS, WRISTBANDS & TABLE RESERVATIONS

Members are welcome (and encouraged!) to bring guests to the marquee. The cost for a guest wristband is £20 for Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and £25 for Saturday.

To apply for wristbands or make a table reservation, please fill out the form at the bottom of this email and return it to membership@htsg.co.uk or post to Hayley Dunstan Lynthorpe, Tylers Lane, Bucklebury Berks RG7 6TN Please return all forms before 15th April.

To keep costs down, Wristbands can be collected from the HTSG Marquee at Badminton and will not be posted out in advance.

CATERING

Emma Harrison is providing the catering, as in previous years. A two-course lunch is available every day, from 12 noon until 2.30pm. Breakfast is available on Saturday only, from 7.45am to 10.30am.

All lunches must be pre-ordered. A booking form is attached below. Please return this directly to Emma.

Welcome from the new HTSG Committee

Dear Members,

We are delighted to be writing our first letter to you all as your new team at HTSG. As the outgoing committee members have already said their goodbyes, we want to thank them all for their hard work and dedication over the years and acknowledge that we have large shoes to fill!

Our first exciting piece of news is to let you know that Rosemary Barlow has agreed to take on the role of President. She is delighted that a new committee has been assembled and has offered her continuing support for which we are extremely grateful. In addition, we are also pleased to say that Ginny Elliot will be staying with us but in a new capacity as Vice President along with Jane Holderness-Roddam. We know that they need no introduction to you, and we are bolstered by their desire to stay involved with HTSG under our new stewardship.

You are all very familiar with Spencer who has agreed to wear the Chairman’s hat. The rest of us are by no means as instantly recognisable but we are all looking forward to introducing ourselves, and we are excited for Badminton so that we can meet as many of you as possible.

As we bask in the reflective glory of an outstanding summer of eventing culminating in Olympic team Gold and an Individual Bronze medal, we as a committee are energised to continue HTSG’s involvement in supporting Team GB. Last year’s donation of £12,500 made by the outgoing committee to that Paris team may just have made all the difference! Fulfilling that purpose has left a minimal amount in our fundraising account so we will be putting every effort to replenish funds over the next Olympic cycle so that we are in a strong position to continue supporting Team GB all the way up to LA in 2028 and beyond.

To achieve this, we will be focussing on increasing our fundraising endeavours and have some fun ideas in the pipeline. Our main source of funds however remains your membership fee, so we need to ensure that at the very least, we retain your valuable membership, whilst we work hard to recruit new members.

We are pleased to say that there will be no increase in the membership fee for 2025. The fee enables you to contribute to team GB funding as well as benefit from having a full season car pass and a warm dry base at Badminton which we feel we are so lucky to be able to enjoy. We are extremely grateful to the Badminton team for continuing to subsidise this and make room for us.

We are full of energy, determination and goals so will keep you posted on some new initiatives and events in the New Year. In the meantime, we can confirm that your new committee is full steam ahead with the organisation of the wonderful Badminton tent.

We hope you’ll all continue to join us as all as your new jockeys take up the reins.

Zip Travel’s tour to the FEI Eventing European Championship

We are delighted to invite you to join Zip Travel’s tour to the FEI Eventing European Championship at Haras du Pin! Once again Zip Travel have agreed to work with HTSG to bring you this incredible experience.

For just the second time in its 70-year history, the European championship returns to the iconic French National Stud. In the idyllic Normandy countryside the British team will be trying to re-capture the gold medal (and indeed all the individual medals!) they won so emphatically in Avenches in 2021. As well as being an exciting competition in its own right, this year’s event will also serve as a fascinating indicator of who the leading contenders may be when the Olympics arrive just down the road in Paris next year.

The Zip Travel tour includes VIP Pavilion season tickets, travel from the UK, daily transfers and accommodation in the historic city of Caen. A welcome reception, course walk, National Stud tour and, of course, a Calvados tasting is also part of the package. As ever, there will be expert Zip Travel representatives leading the tour and answering any questions you may have.

Join them between 8 - 14 August 2023 in their 18th year of running an eventing tour. Prices per person start from £1,795 for a shared double/ twin room and £2,395 for a single.

Burghley Horse Trials - 25% discount on season membership pass

Following the changes both to the HTSG annual membership structure and the changes at Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials we have been able to agree a 25% discount on the usual season membership pass for all fully paid up HTSG members. Members will be able to apply for tickets direct to the Box Office with a validation code. We really appreciate Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials working with us to be able to provide this benefit and are sure it will be appreciated by the members visiting Burghley for the first time in two years

Dear Member,

Thank you once again for your support in 2021; we hereby invite you to renew your membership for 2022.

For 2022 the membership fees are as follows:

Single membership - £195
Joint membership - £260

PLEASE NOTE WE HAVE HAD TO CHANGE THE BASIS OF MEMBERSHIP FOR THIS YEAR TO INCLUDE BADMINTON PASSES ONLY.

WE HOPE IN THE SPRING TO BE ABLE TO OFFER DISCOUNTED PASSES FOR BURGHLEY, BUT AT THIS TIME THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE US WITH COSTS AND SO WE COULD NOT INCLUDE IN THE ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP.

As usual, a proportion of the membership fee will go towards our fund-raising activities to support the British teams. We are confident that the membership fees still offer great value for money, considering the unique benefits members receive. In line with all things post covid, with all costs of contractors and fuel etc increasing, the costs of Badminton passes and the Badminton marquee have gone up by more than inflation.

To renew your membership you will need to set up a bank transfer or standing order to our bank account or send us a cheque. Please ensure any standing order payments are updated for the new prices above.
